The mission of our group, Squash the Secret, is to Bring Awareness among the parents in our community regarding the hidden dangers of heroin/opiate abuse, knowing the visual as well as the subtle signs, the imminent threat to themselves, their family, friends and our society. Another aspect of our mission is Education in order to save lives, so that our children and loved ones are not taken from us by surprise. To teach and educate that Addiction is a Disease and it should never go unnoticed. The ultimate result will be Prevention so that another life is not lost or harmed, our children are able to live a fulfilling life, and to keep the disease contained to the fullest extent possible.

Please contact me. I lost my son 2 years ago due to a heroin overdose! He was a beautiful human being and helped many other through his own addiction. He got addicted to oxycontin and actually instant messaged me from his own bedroom while I was on my computer just les than 15 feet away, saying “mom I need your help”! I instantly got off line, went into his bed room (he was home from college) and found him in the corner of his room arms wrapped around his knees, head buried into his knees and crying, saying he was so sorry, that he got himself into something that he was trying to get off of and could not! The rest is history. He was in a rehab, but he only lasted les than a year and overdosed on heroin. My heart is with so many others that have lost beautiful, compassionate, loving, caring, people to this! Anything I can do to help awareness I will! I would so love to get in touch with you! Are you aware that many school districts have dropped DARE programs in the schools on the past 10 years
DARE officers also met with parents and spoke to them about there concerns.
Is that being done today ???
You have great intentions, but what’s questions are you trying to get answered?
Are you partnering with local law enforcement , health care professionals ,, etc. ?
My gratitude, heart and sincere sympathies to you and your family. I lost my precious grandson, and I applaud you and those who support your tireless efforts to educate parents and children alike to prevent further tragedies. G-d bless and help you succeed in changing the HIPPA LAWS when it comes to our loved ones. You have my deep, sincere appreciation, support and thanks.
Having lost a loved one, I totally agree with you. You are the angels we have here on earth, working tirelessly, without renumeration, to save lives and heartbreak. You are loved and commended for all your efforts given unselfishly with an open, grieving heart. May you find peace and contentment in the knowledge that you are educating, and continue to help others.
Mala, thank you very much for your kind and loving comments. If I can save one life I will have made my son Justin happy, as that would be his wish. However, my goal is to prevent, educate and save many more as this has been a terrible epidemic in our community.
I attended a conference last night presented by this group – thank you SO MUCH!! I can’t believe how brave you parents are, speaking about your tragedies to try to prevent more. Please keep the message going. I will try to do so on my end.
and once they turn 18 we have no rights as a parent… not even to call hospitals to see if they have our child to know if they are at least alive .. and i am sooo sorry for the pain in your hearts over your loss of your loved one barbara
